More Summer

More Summer.

Not enough time in the world ...

The summer season here provides pretty much all you could ask for in terms of activities and things to do in the great outdoors, or for that matter, indoors, with plenty of fantastic places and sights to visit.

Within walking distance we have tennis courts about 200 meters away. Nordic walking trails and cycle routes start right at our door. Bike hire, including electric bikes to make those up hill bits easier, and the town of St.Michael with its lovely cafes, two Spa's (with pools, saunas and massages), and small shops ,are close at hand whilst the bottom lift station for the Grosseck - Speiereck mountain is easily reached. The excellent golf course and driving range are only a few kilometres from us and you can even cycle or walk straight there along the, motorised traffic-free, river path.

Challenge

We have a fantastic high ropes course at Katscberg, (like Go Ape but bigger), and as a member of the local archery club Ben can organise a fun morning or afternoon outing to the nearby 3D archery course where you walk through woodlands and shoot at realistic , and some not so realistic, animal targets!

Value

It is not all about the expected activities either, there are loads of fun, interesting and out of the ordinary things to do and try.

For the best views we have two airfields offering pleasure flights or why not try the true tranquillity of gliders or the exhilaration of paragliding off the the mountain opposite us. We even have an airfield just for radio controlled aircraft which hosts a huge RC festival with aircraft of all scales, some are huge!

Train spotting here has an interesting twist with not only our steam trains on the narrow gauge line but with a few of the most impressive funicular railways in Europe not far away.

For the indoors we have several castles, museums, steam train trips, indoor pools and wellness centres and of course lazing about the house making yourselves very much at home.

Further afield for days out we are only an hour away from Salzburg with everything you would expect from a city such as museums , shops, resturants, concerts , bars and general sightseeing but Salzburg is not only the home of Mozart but also the obligitory 'Sound of Music' tours and the magnificent Red Bull museum Hanger 7 which houses many of the Red Bull sponsored racing cars, airplanes, helicopters, bikes, in fact anything that Red Bull has a hand in and it is free admission ! Oh and not forgetting the wonderful Zoo. And of course the.......in fact just click on the Salzburg link and the huge list of days out will appear .

Just outside of Salzburg in Bavaria, Germany there is the mountain village of Obersalzberg, near Berchtesgaden, and the Eagles Nest all with facinating and very dark history.

To the South of us we have many huge and very beautiful lakes. The nearest is the Millstätter See near the large town of Spittal an der Drau. It is not the biggest but it is the deepest and it is in a beautiful area .There is lots to do here. Including hiring pleasure boats, paddle boats, Kayaks and sailing dinghies. If you don't fancy being in charge then taking a pleasure cruise around the lake is a lovely way of passing the time plus it has a bar and small restaurant on board. For the more active and thrill seekers there is water-skiing, tyre, banana, parasailing and wind surfing or some beach-volleyball. You can even learn to scuba dive with PADI or go completely tank free and learn to free dive with no oxygen ! At 141m, Millstättersee is the deepest lake in this part of Austria and is regarded as one of the most attractive diving sites in Austria, with crystal clear water, several wrecks, an impressive abundance of fish and the lake’s famous steep-sided geography.

As you can see there is so much to do and far to much to list so we have provided some web links for you to check out and Katsburg , the mountain we are at the base of, produced a great PDF brouchure for last year so we have put this link in to as it gives you a good over view of what can be done. (A word of warning some of the websites don't translate to English so if you have' Google Chrome' its best to open with that as it translates for you).
