Winter Area

The Mountains are calling & I must go!

Ski region links

Winter... well winter is on the whole pretty obvious, although we do have some fun and interesting surprises here.

Lets start with the obvious. Skiing and snowboarding! Yes we have lots. What do you fancy? Generally quiet slopes, good runs, snow sure, off piste, good lifts, nice and inexpensive mountain restaurants, good views and generally good weather? Yep got that, what else?

But seriously here in the Lungau we have an interesting set-up made up of 4 main resorts all easily accessible in less than 10 minutes by car, minibus or the local ski bus service which stops right outside the Chalet. Click on the big map above or link buttons below to take you to the resort overview page for a short description and links to each separate resort.

The way the mountain ranges converge and the wind direction mean this area has a fairly unique weather system. Which in winter, basically boils down to the fact we get snow from both the west and the south, so while other resorts suffer we have a far better chance of having good snow. The seasons we have been here for have been great for snow whilst other areas suffered greatly. If all else fails, all the mountain resorts are covered by a fantastic and efficent snow cannon network to guarantee you get out on the slopes.

As far as ski passes are concerned there are loads of choices! Individual resort passes for those starting out or when one lovely area is enough. A point-system pass for those wanting just to go up a lift or gondola for the view. Then we have three big area passes. The Lungau card covers everywhere EXCEPT Obertauern, (which is 25 minutes away from us) The Lungo card  covers ALL Lungao Valley area. Lastly there is the Salzburg Super Ski card which covers a huge area covering ALL Salzburger region (including the Lungau) ski areas! Check out the links below for some idea of prices. It can get a little confusing so just ask us and we will do our best to help.

There are 3 resorts on our doorstep, Katschberg-Aineck, Grosseck-Speiereck and Fanningberg, all are extremly family friendly with great, experienced and fun ski schools. Some have seperate training slopes so no speed-demons hurtling through the class and its easy to build your experience or confidence in a group or private lesson. Most ski schools have a kindergarten service taking kids from the age of 3 upwards. So parents can get some 'you' time skiing or some 'you' time sitting in the mountain huts having a glühwein or in the wellness spa's. Well you get the idea. Escape!!!

As far as ski hire goes there are several options and places availiable.

Our Favourite by far is Rest Sport and our guests receive a generous 10% discount there!

They have new kit every year and the team are just AMAZING - almost as good as us!!!!

Most depots are right on the slopes and we will drive you there to make sure you are kitted out and ready to go on your 1st day/ski school! Click the link below so you can see the local prices.

You pray for snow and we'll do the rest !
